Good Study Habits And Positive Attitude
If you are not where you want to be in life, why are you chilling so much?
On some days, we wonder why it is possible for our classmates, cousins, and friends to be doing so well in school, while it is such a struggle for us to get started on completing home, or revision to prepare for exams.
Having a good mindset can certainly contribute to the development of effective study habits and enhance your ability to learn faster.
Do be aware that no amount of motivation techniques by relatives and friends to encourage you will work if you are lazy or stubborn.
You have to set a proper goal for yourself.
FOCUS on one thing: Make studying your first priority.
Here is how a positive attitude can benefit your study habits:
- Motivation And Enthusiasm. A positive mindset helps cultivate interest and encouragement for learning. When you approach your studies with a positive attitude, you are more likely to be engaged, proactive, and enthusiastic about acquiring knowledge and skills
- Growth Mindset. Having a growth mindset means believing that intelligence and abilities can be developed through consistent effort and practice. With a growth mindset, you will see challenges as opportunities for growth, rather than as roadblocks. This attitude encourages resilience, perseverance, and a willingness to put in the necessary effort to learn and to improve
- Confidence And Self-Belief. A positive mindset fosters confidence and self-belief in your own abilities as a learner. When you believe in yourself and your capacity to learn, you are more likely to approach tasks with optimism, and to tackle them with greater determination
- Productivity And Discipline. By maintaining a positive outlook, a positive mindset can enhance your productivity and discipline. You will be able to better manage distractions, resist procrastination, and stay committed to your study schedule. You will be able to work on your tasks with a sense of purpose and determination to achieve your goals
- Resilience And Adaptability. You can develop resilience and adaptability in the face of challenges, when you have a positive mindset. By using a solution-oriented mindset, you will seek alternative approaches and strategies to overcome setbacks or difficulties, while you continue on your learning journey
- Be Consistent. Developing good study habits is a gradual process, and everyone’s learning journey is unique. Embracing a positive mindset and combining it with consistent effort, effective strategies, and a growth-oriented approach will help you cultivate productive study habits and enhance your ability to learn faster
- Set Specific And Realistic Goals for What You Want To Achieve Every Day. This will help you stay motivated and keep on track
- Create A Practical Daily Schedule, And Stick To It. This will make studying a regular part of your routine
- Break Each Of Your Study Sessions into shorter, manageable chunks of time. One way would be for you to study for 25 minutes, and then take a 5-minute break
- Eliminate Distractions When You Study. This might mean turning off your phone or finding a quieter place to study
- Use Positive Reinforcement to reward yourself for sticking to your study schedule. For example, you might treat yourself to a favourite healthy snack or activity after a successful study session
- Be Persistent. Do not give up after a day or two. Habit formation take time and effort
- When Studying, Be Serious, Be Disciplined, Be Motivated, And Concentrate Whole-Heartedly. Learn to focus and concentrate for at least 30 to 40 minutes at a time, and prevent your mind from wandering. Discipline is important, and you should keep practicing to perfect this
- Take A Short Break. In between every say 40 minutes of intensive studying, you should take at least a 5 to 10 minute break. This break is important because it allows your brain to recharge and refresh. Aside from these short breaks, you should also have longer rest periods that you spend on your hobbies, in order to have a break from the stress of having to analyze and memorize content for your exams. Reward yourself with a night or weekend off, if you have covered good ground during your study sessions
- Find The Most Ideal Possible Time of the morning, afternoon, or evening to study. You would know when it is ideal: when your mind is not tired, or you do not feel sleepy. Just after a heavy meal is usually not a good time to study. Instead, you should use that period of time to rest or to take a leisurely walk
- Sleep Well At Night, and do not think about your school work. Rest your mind completely
- Start “Active Studying”. This means that you do not just read the study material but instead would read, think, and note down key points with little comments of your own, and do a quick recall of what you learned – at the end of a 40 minute study session
- Do Not Procrastinate. You need to have some discipline. Read the notes that you had created after each of your lessons in school, as soon as you start a study session. You have to ensure that these notes are carefully read while they are still fresh in your mind, after your school teacher had taught them in the lesson early that day. Revise them, and improve on your notes if necessary, so that they make more sense to you and are easier to remember
- Revise early. Remember to not cram at the last moment when preparing for your tests and exams. Pace yourself with your preparation, and planning for this is needed. Your daily schedule must including getting a piece of paper and writing down all the things you had studied that day, in a summarized form. When you memorize in your mind, you can temporarily remember the information in the short term. In order to make it permanent or last longer, you need to write down the information
- Finish The Difficult Topics First. Then move towards the easier ones. This keeps your mind constantly engaged in thinking different things
- Make Your Study Space Motivating. Keep positive reminders with encouraging words like “You Got This”, or any of your favourite slogans
